What to Wear to Work: 5 Easy Style Updates
Stylist Brenda Gonzalez tells us how to look profesh and on-trend at the office and after hours.
Fashion is fun and fantasy, so how does it translate into work wear when you’re supposed to look polished and professional? Ask Brenda Gonzalez. The personal stylist helps executives and entrepreneurs tap into their power in style. The founder of Styled By B offers several services, including a VIP shopping experience to styling on-set for an “executive presence” photoshoot.
Gonzalez looks to the runways for inspiration and finds similar elements in ready-to-wear pieces (the clothes you buy off the rack). Pretty Local asked Gonzalez to share five key pieces to have in our closets this season based on current trends that you can wear to the office or dress down for a personal day, too.
1. Oversized Blazers
“We’ve been seeing a lot of drama with blazers,” says Gonzalez. “It adds a polished yet relaxed touch to any look.”
How to Wear: “Pair an oversized blazer with straight-leg jeans and a simple tee for a comfortable yet stylish look. This is a great way to elevate casual outfits while running errands or attending casual gatherings.”
2. Wide-Leg Pants
“Wide-leg pants are back in style, bringing a comfortable yet chic silhouette—perfect for various occasions,” says Gonzalez.
How to Wear: “Wide-leg pants can feel dressy but can work for a casual look when worn with a fitted turtleneck or sweater and a pair of ankle boots.”
Shop: Wit & Wisdom ‘Ab’Solution Skyrise Wide Leg Pants, $88.
3. Chunky Sweaters
“Chunky knits remain a staple for Fall 2024, offering warmth and comfort while still looking put together,” says Gonzalez.
How to Wear: “Pair a chunky sweater with slim-fitting bottoms like skinny jeans or a pencil skirt to balance out the volume. Add statement boots for an on-trend look.”
4. Leather Accessories
Leather is making a big comeback this fall, especially in accessories like bags, belts, and boots.
How to Wear: “Adding a leather belt or handbag to any outfit is an easy way to stay on trend. Consider swapping your regular shoes for leather loafers or boots,” she says.
5. Plaid Patterns
“Plaid continues to dominate the season, whether in skirts, jackets, or scarves,” says Gonzalez.
How to Wear: “A plaid scarf or shirt can instantly give any look a classic fall vibe without breaking the bank. Pair plaid shirts with jeans or layer over a basic tee.”
