You’re probably familiar with this face if you live on Long Island. Elizabeth Hashagen has been delivering your local news since 2000 (and somehow, she hasn’t changed a bit. Read on for her good-skin secrets). If you currently watch the news network or have seen my recent reel, you know that the entire News12 family has had a bit of a glow-up lately, including swanky new studios in Bethpage (which I had the opportunity to see at the Grand Opening party) and exciting, new programming.

Hashagen has recently been named co-host of beWell, a morning show at 9 a.m. every day. The News12 program is a joint venture with Cheddar News and covers all aspects of wellness, from health to finance. It’s a natural fit for Hashagen, who is also a fitness instructor and a mother of two. “When we had the first conversation about the show, I literally jumped out of my seat,” she says. “I’ve been a fitness instructor for more than 20 years, so wellness, health, and fitness are all things I’m so passionate about.”

I had the opportunity to sit down with Hashagen to discuss something I’m so passionate about: Long Island beauty. Here are her favorite spots and must-have products. Because who better to share beauty secrets than someone who has to do her own hair and makeup for live TV every morning?

Your skin is always glowing! What’s your secret?

“Hydrafacials. I get them monthly at Pod Spa in Long Beach. I love it there because they also have a salt cave! I have really dry skin, so my entire routine is based on hydration. All of my skincare products must be moisturizing because my skin just soaks it up. And I like to give my skin a break from makeup when I'm not on camera. I also see Dr. Papadopoulos at Bellmore Dermatology. We’ve done red light therapy and chemical peels.”

What are your favorite face moisturizers?

“I’m using a moisturizer I picked up at Permanent Touch in Woodbury: AM Antioxidant Therapy. It’s all-in-one: It has a tint that is good for my everyday makeup, and it contains SPF 50+. That’s really important to me. I’ve had skin cancer, basal cell carcinoma. I thought it was a pimple, but it wouldn’t go away. So now I’m really cautious in the sun.

I also love the Facial Mist from Meadow and Bark in Long Beach. It’s super hydrating. I use their facial oils at night; they massage right into my skin.”

What are your makeup must-haves when you’re on set?

“I need heavier coverage for TV, so my go-to is usually foundation from MAC. People always comment on my lashes and think I wear fake ones, but I don’t. I’m obsessed with L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Primer. It gives you such fullness. Then I use the Voluminous Original Mascara over it. It’s the best combination!

I also love this product, Saturday Skin Pretty Pop. It’s like a disco glow lotion for your face. And I use Revlon Photoready Cheek Flushing Tints to add a little pop of color on my cheeks or lips.”

Where do you go for hair on Long Island?

“I go to Tommy at Tom New York in Merrick for my haircuts. He’s been my hairstylist for years. I met him in 2002 while shooting a makeover series at a salon. I was young and trying to look older for my job. I had this “Rachel” cut, unfortunately. He asked if he could cut my hair, and I eventually let him. I never got so many compliments on a haircut before. We’ve gone through everything—from pixie cuts to bobs to long layers. You name it; he’s cut it! I trust him.

I get my hair colored by Colleen at Alter Ego Hair Studio in Syossett. I first went to her for a color correction. Someone tried to take me platinum, and it looked white! Former News12 anchor Carol Silva recommended Colleen, and I’ve been going to her ever since. She knows what I do for a living, so she’s very thoughtful when we’re experimenting with new looks.”

Do you have any hair styling tricks?

“I have one of those heatless silk curlers. It’s incredible and no heat damage. I also have the Dyson Airwrap. It’s an investment. So, let's be transparent that it may not be for everybody. But, for me, it's amazing because I have to do my hair for TV every day.

I get a lot of flyaways, so I always have OGX Liquid Smoothing + Liquid Pearl Luminescent Serum on hand. I'll put a little in my hand and pat my hair down. It's fantastic.”
