5 New Mom Beauty Essentials
The must-have products that help this new mom and makeup artist get the job done!
by Ashlee Glazer
I am a celebrity makeup artist whose most recent VIP client is my 5-month-old baby boy, Miles—named after the long-distance relationship his Dad and I had for 3 years and the thousands of miles I’ve traveled across the globe while pregnant.
Life on the go is the only life I know. Only now, instead of jetting off to fabulous destinations like Italy and the South of France or bopping around New York from client to client, I am strolling around the beautiful suburban streets in my neighborhood and going to the playground.
After 19 years of washing my brushes each night after a long day's work, I am now washing bottles and pumps. I lay them out to dry nice and neat so they don’t collect mold and are ready for the next morning. I wipe down each toy just as I would my makeup brushes and eyeshadow palettes. It's an assembly line each night—the same routine I always had, just a little different.
I pack my diaper bag like a set bag. I don’t even have a formal diaper bag; I can’t seem to find the right one for me. I know from years of being a makeup artist that creating the “perfect kit” is a journey, but you always have your set bag filled with your go-to, most flexible, versatile items that you can use on the fly.
Of course, I have a few non-baby items in my stroller bag for me, because I’m not a regular mom—I’m a glamorous mom. And in a pinch, they come in really handy for the baby, too—like the day he had a blowout, and I was out of wipes! Here are five products that are always in my stroller bag:
1. Supergoop Glow Screen: I love the classic glow this SPF gives the skin. They make a variety of textures and tints if you prefer something more matte. I use this on my face and body for a sheen-y shine that protects my skin.
2. Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula Swivel Stick: I swam in their cocoa and shea butter oil when pregnant. This glue-stick-size balm is a must in my stroller for my lips, skin, bug bites, cuticles, and even my baby!
3. Milk Makeup Lip + Cheek in Rally: All of the colors are great, but this raspberry, pint-size product is a fave. It gives the right amount of flush to my cheeks and lips without a fuss, and it fits in the little cup holder of my stroller accessory.
4. Lanolips Tinted Lanolin Lip Balm in Perfect Nude: I miss my pregnancy lips so much, and this gloss brings me close to them. It’s a mauve-y dusty rose pink with blue undertones (which is hard to find), and you don’t even need a mirror to apply it.
5. Evian Natural Water Spray: It’s an all-time classic in my makeup kit. I use it when I get hot, when he gets hot, when his snack falls on the floor, or when I forget my wipes and he needs a cleanup. It’s 100 percent spring water from the French Alps. What is more essential than that?
